Fax-to-Email & Virtual Fax

Virtual fax (also called eFax) lets your business send and receive faxes entirely as email attachments — no physical fax machine, no dedicated phone line, and no one standing at a machine waiting for a document to print.

Why do businesses still need fax at all?

Plenty of industries — healthcare, legal, insurance, government — still require faxed documents for compliance or process reasons, even though the technology feels dated. Virtual fax lets you meet that requirement without maintaining old hardware.

How does receiving a fax actually work?

An incoming fax arrives as a document (typically PDF) attached to an email, delivered to whichever inbox or distribution list you’ve assigned it to — reviewable, forwardable, and searchable exactly like any other email attachment.

How do I send a fax without a fax machine?

You upload or attach the document through the web portal or by emailing it to a designated fax-out address, and it’s transmitted as a standard fax to the recipient’s fax number on the other end — they receive it exactly as if it came from a traditional machine.

What if we have an existing physical fax machine we want to keep using?

That’s also supported — a physical fax machine can be connected to the system through an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter — a small device that lets older analog equipment connect to a modern phone system — see Glossary). See Connecting Analog Devices.

Is a faxed document as secure as a regular fax line?

Yes — transmission is encrypted and delivery is logged, giving you a clearer audit trail than a traditional fax machine sitting in an open office ever provided.
