Blind (Cold) Transfer

A blind transfer (transferring a call to someone else without speaking to them first — see Glossary) sends a call directly to another extension, ring group, or queue in a single step, without you needing to speak to the receiving party before the call connects.

01

How does a blind transfer actually work in practice?

You select the transfer destination — by extension, name, or speed-dial entry — and confirm, and the call is sent immediately. You’re released from the call the moment the transfer is initiated, whether or not the destination has actually answered yet.

02

Why would someone choose a blind transfer over an attended one?

Speed. When you already know the destination is the right one and don’t need to relay any context — like transferring a caller who explicitly asked for a specific department — a blind transfer is the fastest way to move the call along.

03

What happens if the person you transferred to doesn’t answer?

The call follows whatever no-answer handling is set up on that destination — voicemail, overflow to another person, or back to a queue — the same as any other unanswered call. It doesn’t automatically return to you.

04

How is this different from an attended transfer?

An Attended (Warm) Transfer lets you speak privately with the receiving person first, confirm they’re available, and give them context before connecting the caller — useful when a smooth, informed handoff matters more than speed.

05

Can this be done from a mobile app, not just a desk phone?

Yes — blind transfer works identically from the softphone and mobile apps as it does from a physical desk phone, since it’s a system-level call-control feature, not something tied to specific hardware.
