Whisper Coaching for Live Calls
Whisper coaching lets a supervisor speak privately into an agent’s ear during a live call — the agent hears the coaching in real time, but the customer on the other end never does.

How is whisper coaching different from just listening in?
Listening in (call monitoring) is silent on both ends — the supervisor hears the call but says nothing. Whisper coaching goes one step further: the supervisor can talk to the agent, in real time, while the call is still happening. The customer’s experience is completely unaffected either way. See Live Call Monitoring for the listen-only version.
When would a supervisor actually use this?
Typically during a new hire’s first live calls, a tricky escalation, or any call where a nudge in the moment (“offer the discount code now,” “ask for their account number”) would help the agent land the call well — without the customer ever knowing a second person is involved.
What’s the difference between whisper coaching and barge-in?
Whisper coaching keeps the supervisor’s voice private to the agent only. Barge-in is a step further still — the supervisor actually joins the call directly, and the customer can hear and speak with them too. Use whisper coaching when you want to guide the agent; use barge-in when the situation needs a supervisor to take over directly.
Does whisper coaching require any special hardware or setup?
No. It works through the same agent workspace and headset your team already uses — a supervisor selects a live call from their dashboard and starts coaching with one click. No separate line, phone, or app needed.
Is there a record of what was said during whisper coaching?
The call recording (where enabled) captures the full interaction the customer and agent, and coaching notes can be logged separately for performance reviews. See QA Scoring & Coaching Notes for how these sessions tie into ongoing agent development.
