Click-to-Answer, Transfer & Hold

CTI (Computer Telephony Integration — technology that lets a computer control phone functions like answering, transferring, and holding calls — see Glossary) means an agent can manage a call entirely with mouse clicks from their screen, instead of hunting for buttons on a desk phone.

01

Why does this matter if agents already know how to use a phone?

Speed and accuracy. A misdialed transfer or a fumbled hold button wastes time and can frustrate a customer mid-call. Click-based controls are faster, harder to get wrong, and keep an agent’s attention on their screen — where the caller’s information already is — rather than splitting focus between a phone and a monitor.

02

Does this replace the desk phone entirely?

It can, but doesn’t have to. Some businesses keep desk phones and use CTI just to control them from the computer; others go fully computer- and headset-based. See Headset Integration for the plug-and-play headset option that pairs well with a phone-free setup.

03

What actions can an agent actually control this way?

Answering, blind or attended transfer, placing a call on hold, conferencing in another person, and hanging up — the core actions of handling a call — are all available as clicks within the agent workspace.

04

Does this work with remote and work-from-home agents the same way?

Yes — click-to-answer/transfer/hold works identically whether an agent is in the office or working remotely, since it’s built into the same software workspace rather than tied to physical office hardware.

05

Is any special setup required per agent?

No special IT work per person — once an agent has an account and a headset (or desk phone paired via CTI), they have full click-based call control from day one.
