Outbound Caller ID (DOD)
DOD (the specific outbound number your system displays on a call recipient’s caller ID — see Glossary) is configurable per extension, per department, or per outbound campaign, so you control exactly what a customer sees when your business calls them.

Does everyone have to show the same main company number?
No — you can set a shared main number as the default while letting specific departments, or even specific individuals, show their own direct number instead, so a customer calling back reaches the right person or team immediately.
Can this change depending on which number the customer originally called us on?
Yes — a common pattern is matching it to whichever DID the customer used to reach you in the first place, so a callback keeps the same identity the customer already recognizes, especially important for multi-brand setups.
Is this the same as “local presence” caller ID used in outbound sales?
Related — local presence takes this further by automatically selecting an outbound number with a local area code matching the person being called, which tends to improve answer rates for outbound sales and follow-up calls.
Can this be tied to marketing campaign tracking numbers?
Yes — for outbound follow-up on a lead that came in through a specific tracking number, you can display that same number back to them for consistency. See Call Tracking Numbers for Marketing for how those numbers work on the inbound side.
Is it possible to block or restrict this entirely?
Yes — for specific use cases you can withhold caller ID on outbound calls, though for most day-to-day business calling, showing a recognizable number improves the odds a customer actually answers.
